Visitor address and public transport

The city publishes Am Gottesacker 25, 44143 Dortmund to help visitors identify the location; it explicitly notes that this is not a postal address. Public-transport options include U47 to Hauptfriedhof, S4 to Knappschaftskrankenhaus and bus 427 to stops serving the grounds. The map marker lies within the cemetery and does not identify a particular gate.

Assistance across the extensive grounds

The cemetery covers about 115 hectares. A free electric shuttle for older people and visitors with limited mobility runs from the main entrance on weekdays: Monday to Thursday from 08:00 to 16:30 and Friday until 15:30. Journeys are requested by telephone. Private vehicle permits require the relevant proof of impaired walking ability. Digital and printed plans provide additional orientation.

A combined landscape and architectural ensemble

The principal complex opened in 1924, following the decision to establish the cemetery in 1912. New Objectivity buildings and the landscape design form a coherent ensemble. More than 7,400 trees shape the grounds, which are also described as Dortmund’s largest green space.

Administration and grave care

The listed office hours belong to the cemetery administration and must not be confused with access times for the grounds. A grave-care enquiry should include the cemetery name, deceased person’s name, plot, row and grave number where known, together with a clear description of the requested work.
